Dare County Arts Council operates a fine arts and craft gallery for emerging and established artists, providing a constantly rotating exhibit of local art. The gallery is located on the first floor of the historic 1904 Dare County Courthouse, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in downtown Manteo, NC.
Theatre of Dare began in 1991 with the help of Ruth Ambrosius and Pat Clayton with the Outer Banks Forum. The first organizational meeting was held in November of that year and along with the Dare County Arts Council "TOD" was born.
The Lost Colony theatrical production tells the tale of 117 English men, women, and children who came ashore on Roanoke Island in 1587 to establish a permanent English settlement in the New World. Just three years later in 1590, when English ships returned to bring supplies, they found the island deserted with no sign of the colonists. After nearly 450 years, the mystery of what happened to the colonists remains unsolved.
Located in downtown Manteo, Water Street Studio is a working studio for visual artist Fay Davis Edwards. This is an active creative space for both the artist and students. Workshops & classes are featured regularly.
